Ross on writing I Am Not Brad Pitt and Other Stories:

“The idea for this book has probably been germinating for some time. When I lived in Los Angeles, you couldn’t swing a dead cat without hitting someone who was a celebrity, who worked for one or was intent on becoming one. Our culture has created a class of people who are obsessed with becoming famous or getting close to those who are. After all, celebrities represent our fantasy lives, the lives we always wished we could lead.

“We see them on TV, on our phone screens and on billboards and we begin to think that we know them, that we have a sense of who they are. But we don’t really know who they are, do we? They have become our modern-day Gods of Mount Olympus, untouchable and unknowable. As these stories demonstrate, they are not bound by our rules.

“These three stories poke a little fun at who they are and at the common mortals who get too close to the sun. But the question at hand is always…who am I? And who do I become when faced with extraordinary circumstances and choices.”
